How would you like to use walking as ways to re-charge your mobile phone? That can be made possible as very soon, strolling can be used to generate electricity as the technology developed to use human motion is now being made US researchers. The device will be placed in a shoe and capture the energy of moving micro droplets and then convert it into electrical current. This type of technology where kinetic charging has already been used through low power devices like watches and sensors and now the University of Wincosin team has figured out a way to harness the kind of science into the device. They published the study in the journal Nature Communications.

We are generally powerful energy-producing machines as a sprint from a person can produce a kilowatt of powerl This kind of power is enough to power a standard mobile phone. Even though it has a similar method as those already existing with low power electronics, it has no practical mechanical to electrical conversion technology that could produce high levels of power. What is need is the power in the watts range and that is what is needed to power portable electronics. When you picture it on a larger scale, mats used to generate power are thought to have been installed under the floors of two Tokyo trains to capture vibrations from the thousands of commuters. They uaw the energy recovered to power appliances as well as the automatic doors they have.

The device made makes use of microscopic droplets that are able to conduct electrical current. Using reverse electrowetting principle, the new personal mechanism will convert the energy of miving microscopic liquid droplets and making them into an electrical current. It will be placed on a shoe where the conductive droplets will be positioned and it will be able to generate electicity. It is believed to be able to charge a phone or a laptop with the power that is generated from it. But there is still a challenge as to how to get them from the device to the handset itself. They first suggest that a USB cable would be attached to the shoes but it is clearly not a practical reason. There was also a suggest as to using wireless technology to transmit the power. Either way, the technology still needs to be perfected.
