China “Apple Store” In Kunming City Shutdown For Being Fake

Recent events in China include having fake Apple Stores shut down. This was all due to the blog of an American Woman that is living in Kunming. Her visit to as what she would describe a fake Apple Store was posted in her blog, the BirdAbroad and this exposure has captured three fake stores that mimicked the look of the real one got the world’s attention. It was through this blog also that trade officials investigated the city and got five stores checked and two have already been closed due to lack of business license and permits. The officials investigated the store that the writer talked about but it was actually not a fake. It had license to trade and had genuine Apple products. Apple had no comment as of late about the stores being fake.

The blog described how it was a very convincing store visually. There were a lot of similarities that it did really look like the store, like for example, the blue shirts of the employees with chunky ID lanyards and the winding staircase and upstairs seating area. So much trouble had been done just to copy the key elements of the original store that it never occurred to her it was fake.

But she also wrote that it had construction problems and not of high standards. It had poorly put together stairs, poorly painted walls and a big “Apple Store” sign out front. The original never had that sign as the blogger stated and it only had the iconic fruit as a sign. There were also no registered stores in the Apple website for the stores in her area and that it was only present in Beijing and Shanghai.

The site reached 500,000 views in 48 hours alone and it proved to be hugely popular.

Apple had no comment as of late about the stores being fake.
