Organizing your PC

Here is the scenario that is reenacted time and again in this country.  You finally accept the need for a new computer and you bite the bullet and get the best one you can afford.  You begin installing applications and you cannot locate CDs, installation instructions, etc.   This leads to lost authorization codes and the like.   This simply means that you – like most people – do not have a very organized use of or control of your PC.  Not only is this an issue in regard to making major changes like reinstalling applications but most people have limiting factors and productivity issues that nag them every day.  The best way to avoid all of these issues – and provide for a more properly and safely run system – is to get organized.  This is not the highly organized processes that software engineers use – this is just simple stuff that all of us can and should do on a daily basis.

Start by organizing the applications on your PC.  Regardless of purchased or preloaded, all your applications came with both instructions and authorization codes and they should be stored in an organized manner.   Make sure that you copy and save all passwords, user IDs and 25-Digit Authorization Codes.  You should store all these important pieces of data in handwritten copy and onboard your PC.   If you need them they will be easily accessible.   That goes for User IDs and Passwords as well as email logons.   It is just smart business to do this.  You should ensure that you have the most efficient login and access to your email and subscription sites.   This will provide more increases in productivity.

The final and primary category is in regard to storing data and application access.  Ensure that you have an icon launch on the desktop for all regularly used applications.   Make sure, also, that you have provided for adequate data file backup.

The last category is how your data is stored.  Many people have never even given any thought to this issue – typically allowing – for instance – Word to store your documents based on the first 22 characters or 5 words.  You should always organize and identify your data with planned, labeled and numbered folders and store them by date within application.  Then, when you need to access them in the future you will be able to do so quickly and efficiently.

Getting organized on your PC also means heightened security, so make sure you have installed a virus protection system.  Make sure you run a quality Windows registry package.  You can purchase and download a top registry software package that does this and also performs the other registry fix functions that accomplish any needed Registry Repair after the backup operation.
